New!  Mechanical Damage to Roofs (1.5 Hr)

Using real-world examples of both residential and commercial properties, Mechanical Damage to Roofs (1.5 Hr) teaches you methods for differentiating hail- and wind-caused damage from effects that are not caused by natural weathering.  The course covers situations when a roof is unintentionally damaged (such as during maintenance or installation activities).  It also includes situations in which an individual attempts to simulate damage through the use of tools and/or force.  Course clues and techniques for differentiating these effects can be particularly useful in SIU investigations.  Importantly, this online seminar covers several conditions which are commonly attributed to the wrong cause.   Section quizzes and a final exam are required to complete this course.

Repair Vs Replace Cost Analysis (1 Hr)

This course was designed to introduce participants the concept of using test squares on roofs to evaluate the extent of hail damage and perform basic economic repair vs. replace calculations.  Formulas and scenarios for both residential and commercial roofs are utilized to present a complete discussion of the topic.  Related topics such as the characteristics of hail as they relate to damage and estimate development are also covered.  At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:  discuss the rationale behind the use of a test square to evaluate the extent of hail damage; identify the characteristics of hail in relation to damage; and use the proper formula to make economic repair vs. replace decisions for residential and commercial roofs.
